★★★☆☆ A solid 3 stars for Fifty Shades of Whitethorn , aka Aelin Galathynius and the Horniest Road Trip Ever If the characters in this book hadn't been so hormonal (apparently forgetting there was a war going on in the effort to keep their clothes on) or insistent on keeping secrets from each in favor of dramatic reveals that ultimately only hurt their cause ( *cough cough* I'm looking at you, Aelin ) maybe things would have gone smoother and the book would have been half its size and less of a waste of my time. It had all the potential to be another Heir of Fire, but instead it was a porno pretending to be a fantasy novel , curled toes, biting, and all. And in true Sarah J Maas style, I was able to predict with perfect accuracy the main love plots in this book literally before I even started reading it. Tower of Dawn better be rutting good. ★★★★☆ T his installment continued with the new, excellent story progression of Heir of Fire, without too much obvious plot twists or easily predictable revelations. While I still prefer Heir of Fire to Queen of Shadows, this was still an epic story and I greatly enjoyed it. The only part that really irked me was the sheer groan-worthy sexually driven scenes that, while sometimes expected and greatly anticipated, were written with cringey dialogue and innuendo. Avg. ★★★★☆ The Assassin and the Pirate Lord ★★ ★ ☆☆ It was good, and helped establish some of pre-Endovier Caelena but I didn't really like the somewhat forced relationship between her and Sam. Idk it just didn't feel natural, and it was probably just because of how short it was. And Sam's almost death didn't feel anxious enough (though, I'll forgive Sarah J Maas of that, since readers of the series all already know Sam's dead). Overall, it was good, but not great. ★★★☆☆ This book is very interesting, is the simplest way to put it. Sometimes I really hated it. Sometimes I really loved it. Most of the time it was painfully predictable. Sarah J Maas obviously wasn't going for subtly with some of those so-called  plot twists . I have a lot of feelings about this book but for some reason, I keep reading. [CAUTION: THIS REVIEW HAS SPOILERS] ★★★☆☆ It took me two years to finish this book.   Two years . I'm not exaggerating. I am astonished at how bad this book is. It really should have been better. There were times when it was actually pretty decent, borderline good, but then it went and did things like this: There was beauty in Chaol's face--and strength, and honor, and loyalty. She stopped hearing the crowd, and her mouth became dry as he stared at her. How had she missed it for so long? Only to go ahead and do this on the very next page: Her heart jumped into a gallop, and Chaol dissolved from her thoughts, like dew beneath the morning sun.
